Boat access living is far easier than you can imagine. It's like switching off from the hustle and bustle and leaving all your troubles on the mainland, and 3 minutes later you are home in paradise.
You change the way you live; you go to restaurants that you can get to via boat. You go surfing at Box Head and drop anchor and paddle in rather than out. Your kids have their own tinnies and commute to their friends rather than you driving them. Kids can get their boat license at 12 years old. It's heaven!
Not long ago, I had a staff member that lives in Avalon say to me at 5pm on a weekday, "Oh you poor bugger, you have to go home via boat to Lovett Bay." I said to him, "Call me when you drive into your driveway, and I will call you when I pull up to my jetty. Let's see who gets home first." I called him within 10 minutes of leaving my office in Mona Vale. This included, driving to Bayview, parking, walking to our boat, idling out through the moorings at 4 knots, zipping across Pittwater as there is no speed limit, and then tying up at our pontoon in Lovett Bay.
He couldn't believe it; I needed to send him a photo to prove I was there. He was still stuck in traffic on Bilgola Bends! Now who is the "Poor Bugger".
