Video: Less is more: The joy of downsizing

Josephine Cowling shares insights on downsizing your home.

There's nothing I love better than a good cup of coffee and a relaxed and informative chat about property. Let's dive into the world of downsizing.

When your children are grown and leave home, you may find your family home with multiple rooms, a large garden and maybe a swimming pool not used to its full extent.

A change in priorities may have you focusing on experiences rather than possessions. The desire for a simpler, less cluttered lifestyle with the flexibility to travel immediately sounds appealing.

Downsizing your home can free up finances to put into other investments that provide you a regular income. You could choose to work part-time or stop altogether.

Downsizing is a strategic move. It prepares you for retirement and reduces expenses. As people age, single-story homes with accessibility features become much more desirable for health, safety, peace of mind and convenience.

Smaller homes have lower utility bills and living expenses. Generally, they require less upkeep, freeing up time for leisure activities. Whatever prompts you to downsize, I encourage you to move before age 65. Start a new chapter and the retirement lifestyle you have always dreamt about.
